About Us

National Institute of Technology Hamirpur is one of the premier technical institutes in Northern India. The Institute presently provides sports facilities for both outdoor and indoor activity. A standard size stadium with provision of pavilion has been provided to the student where the games like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis martial art karate for self defense and Athletics are played.

Outdoor Games:

  • Cricket:There is a common playfield of cricket, football & Athletics with sufficient space around. Students practice during morning & evening. Based on the performance in Intra-Institute tournaments, 15-16 players across branches/ years are selected to represent Institute Team.
  • Volleyball: Many students (Boys & Girls) take part in practice during morning & evening hours in the two Volleyball Courts of FVB (Federation International De Volleyball) standard available in the main ground. Based on the performance in Intra-Institute tournaments, 12 players (boys & girls each) across all branches/years are selected to represent Institute Team.
  • Basketball:There is one Basketball court available matching FIBA (Federation International Basketball Association) standard. Based on the performance in Intra-Institute tournaments, 12 players (boys & girls each) across all branches/years are selected to represent Institute Team.
  • Lawn Tennis: There are two cemented and one synthetic court available at the corner of main playfield near Volleyball court. Many students and faculty regularly practice there during morning & evening hours.
  • Football:There is one playfield for football alongside cricket field in the Main Ground. Many students regularly practice there during morning & evening hours. Based on the performance in Intra-Institute tournaments, 15-16 players across all branches/years are selected to represent Institute Team.
  • AthleticsThere is common playfield for athletics with that of Football & Cricket, where the tracks are prepared before any Athletics tournament. Athletes are selected in institute team based on their performance in previous Annual Sports Meet (Lalkaar) as well as on trial basis. All the institute team athletes regularly practice early in the morning.

Indoor Games:

  • Badminton: One Synthetic & two Wooden Courts are available in the institute main ground with sufficient space for watching badminton matches. Many students regularly practice during morning and evening time, out of which 4-5 players are selected for institute team based on different intra-institute tournaments.
  • Table Tennis: Every hostel of the institute houses its own Table Tennis court. Based on the performance in Intra-Institute tournaments 4-5 players are selected for institute team.
  • Snooker:There are three snooker tables with necessary accessories available at different hostels.
  • Chess: Chess facility is hostels’ common rooms. It will be permanently shifted to Sports Complex building shortly on completion of its construction.
    Gym: There are four Gymnasium Halls in the Institute at different hostels with necessary accessories available.

Events:

  • Inter Branch Tournaments: Competitions are organised among Teams of various department (Branch) during outdoor & indoor Sports events in Odd Semester.
  • Inter Year Tournaments: Competitions are also organised among Teams of each year of B.Tech & M.Tech during outdoor & indoor Sports events in Even Semester.
  • Annual Athletic Meet (Lalkaar)/Prize distribution function:Every year in even semester various track & field events are organised like 100m,200m,400m,800m, 1500m,5000m,4x100m,4x400m,long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw & discuss throw. All the winners of Inter-Institute & Intra-Institute tournaments are felicitated at the closing ceremony of the sports meet.

Karates

Martial Arts Karate Academy NIT Hamirpur

    “Martial Arts Karate Academy NIT Hamirpur” is registered academy which is affiliated to karate association of Himachal Pradesh and karate association of India. It is included as the sports and student activity for NITians. This academy was introduced in NIT Hamirpur on May 2018 by Mr. Gaurav sharma (Senior Black Belt from World Taekwondo Federation & Karate Association of India), a student of Electrical Engineering Department (Batch 2016-2020). He is the first coordinator and instructor of this academy.

AIM

    The Martial Arts and Karate was started in NIT Hamirpur with the aim of making martial arts as a medium for self-defense and confidence building tool for the students that would lead them to a stress free happy life and will provide them, a healthy sporting environment along with the professional engineering life.

VISION

    Apart from sports version of Martial Arts and Karate, the special moto of this initiative is to provide self-defense and survival tactics to NITians, specially for girls and girls empowerment moto.
    We believe that martial arts is a holy practice for reaching the ultimate level of Buddha.

Achievements

    In 2018, south Asian hakuakai karate championship-2018, 6 students of NIT Hamirpur participated, and won 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze in kata and kumite (fight match)

    Events

    In “sports meet 2018 lalkar” karate trainees performed a demonstration about some martial arts techniques, moves and women’s self defense techniques .
