Life in Himachal Pradesh

Located in the northern part of India, Himachal Pradesh is known for its stunning snow-capped mountains and lush green valleys. The state is a treasure trove of cultural heritage, reflected in its local folklore, traditional dance forms like Nati, and religious diversity with Hinduism and Buddhism being predominant. Himachal Pradesh has produced numerous freedom fighters, such as Major Somnath Sharma, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra.

The state's economy is primarily driven by agriculture and horticulture, particularly known for its apples, peaches, and apricots. The NIT Hamirpur campus is situated at Anu in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is nearly 4 Kms away from the main bus stand of Hamirpur on Hamirpur-Tauni Devi road. The city of Hamirpur is well connected with the rest of the country by road. Hamirpur is at a distance of about 450 Kms from Delhi and 160 Kms from Chandigarh.

By Road: Taxi/Bus services are available from Hamirpur to Una. The city is 450 Kms from Delhi and 160 Kms from Chandigarh. The nearest bus stand is about 4 Kms from the campus.

By Rail: The nearest broad gauge railway junction is located at Una, Himachal Pradesh, approximately 80 km from Hamirpur. Chandigarh Railway Station is about 160 km away from Hamirpur. Admission under DASA programme

NIT Hamirpur invites applications from international students for undergraduate and postgraduate programs through the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme. Admission under ICCR Programme of Government of India

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) administers various scholarship programs and awards about 3000+ scholarships under 21 different schemes to foreign students from about 180 countries. This initiative allows students from various countries to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs at one of India’s premier institutions for technical and scientific education.

Eligibility Criteria for ICCR Students (2024-25)

B.Tech.

The candidate must have passed XII class (or equivalent) examination with five subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects) with a minimum of 8 CGPI on a 10-point scale or 75% marks.
Candidates who have appeared in the Class XII examination in the current year or the previous two years and completed Class X no earlier than four years prior to the current year will be eligible for admission in UG programs, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.
The department may set additional eligibility criteria based on JEE (Main), English Proficiency test scores (TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo), marks in the qualifying examination, SAT scores, etc.
Students admitted under this scheme shall not be entitled to any fellowship, scholarship, or financial aid from NIT Hamirpur.

M.Tech.

The applicant must have passed a minimum of four years of B.Tech./B.E./B.S. in a relevant discipline with a CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks.
The department may set additional eligibility criteria based on English Proficiency test scores (TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo), marks in the qualifying examination, SAT scores, etc.
Students admitted under this scheme shall not be entitled to any fellowship, scholarship, or financial aid from NIT Hamirpur.

PhD

For PhD in Engineering Departments, the applicant must have passed Bachelor (minimum four years) and Master Degree (minimum two years) in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate discipline, and must have secured a minimum CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks in the Master’s Degree.
Students admitted under this scheme shall not be entitled to any fellowship, scholarship, or financial aid from NIT Hamirpur.

Admission under Study in India programme

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur welcomes international students under the Study in India program, a government of India initiative designed to attract foreign nationals to pursue higher education in India. NIT Hamirpur offers a world-class education and state-of-the-art facilities, providing an excellent environment for academic growth.

Eligibility Criteria (B.Tech.):
- The candidate must have passed XII class (or equivalent) examination with five subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as compulsory subjects) with a minimum of 8 CGPI on a 10-point scale or 75% marks. - Students admitted under this scheme shall not be entitled to any fellowship, scholarship, or financial aid and 0% waiver in Tuition Fees (G4 Scheme) from NIT Hamirpur.
