Dual Degree Programme
B.Tech. & M.Tech.
Computer Science and Engineering

"Department of Computer Science and Engineering,National Institute of Technology Hamirpur"

Dual Degree programmes are common in India in many IITs/NITs/Universities. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Hamirpur has started the Dual Degree programme in Computer Science and Engineering with effect from the academic year 2014-15. It is a five years programme with the students entitled to both B.Tech. and M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering at the end of five years. The annual intake is 60 students. The need for this programme has been felt in recent years due to least interest among NIT UG students to join M.Tech. programmes. Therefore, main motivation behind starting this programme has been to produce quality M.Tech. graduates having excellent base in basic science, engineering and CSE courses through the undergraduate curriculum to carry out an in-depth thesis work in the fifth year. This thesis activity starts in the summer following the 8th semester. A substantial part of the 9th and 10th semester is devoted to the thesis. A dual degree thesis is expected to result in good research. The goals of the programme are to produce highly skilled professionals at the master level, and enable them to explore issues in research and development in depth. The programme has been started in Computer Science and Engineering, keeping in view the fact that though there are many subareas in Computer Science and Engineering, but still it is a rapidly evolving field with many exciting advances coming in various subareas. Thus, it was felt that it would be best to keep the specialization Computer Science and Engineering, and give students the flexibility to choose elective courses as per their choice.
