Advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
(10th - 12th August 2019)

The primariry objective of the AI-ML workshop is to provide participants with understandings of various methodologies, techniques and tools related to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The AI-ML workshop will bring together experts from various domains to explore the current state of the art applications in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning,approaches for developing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies for various domains such as Network Security, Computer Vision, Speech Processing etc. The hands on session of the worshop will cover the following topics:
-> Application of AI & ML tools to build and evaluate predictors.
-> Application of ML algorithms like Logistic Regression, k-Nearest neighbours, SVMs, Decision Trees,
   Neural Networks, Ensemble methods etc. to search for patterns in data.
-> Data cleaning and preprocessing.
-> Dimensionality reduction techniques namely PCA and auto-encoder.
-> Application of CNNs for computer vision problems.
-> Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Auto Encoders.
-> Modeling and deployment of AI and ML based applications in real time.

About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Hamirpur was established in 1989. The mission of the Department is to impart high quality graduate and undergraduate education and carry out leading edge research in various disciplines of Computer Science & Engineering. The Department offers B.Tech, M.Tech and Dual-Degree programs. The Department also offers Ph.D. programs on Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Network Security, Wireless Sensor Networks and various other domains of Computer Science. The Department is actively involved in organizing various technical events, expert talks and workshops for all round development of its students and faculty members. The Three Days National level workshop on “Advances in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI-ML 2K19)” is primarily sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical System (ICPS) division of Department of Science & Technology (DST),Govt. of India.

About the Institution

National Institute of Technology Hamirpur is one of the premier institutions of India. It was established in 1986 as Regional Engineering College, a joint and cooperative enterprise of the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh. About the Workshop

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Hamirpur is organizing a three days National level workshop on “Advances on Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning” (AI-ML workshop) from 10 th - 12 th August 2019. The workshop is technically supported and sponsored by ICPS divison of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India. Distinguished academicians, facultymembers, research scholars, undergradute and graduate students are invited to participate in the workshop. The workshop will cover both introductory as well as advance topics on Artificial Intelligence & Machine learnine and discuss their appications across wide range of domains. Eminent speakers from academia and industries will deliver keynote lectures in the work- shop. The workshop will also have practical demonstration and hands on sessions on live Machine Learning projects for the participants.

Eminent Speakers

1. Dr. Partha Pratim Roy,IIT Roorkee

Dr. Partha Pratim Roy received his Ph.D. degree in computer science in 2010 from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Barcelona (Spain). He worked as postdoctoral research fellow in the Computer Science Laboratory (LI, RFAI group), France (2010-2012) and in Synchromedia Lab, Canada (2013). Presently, Dr. Roy is working as Assistant Professor at Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. His main research area is Pattern Recognition.

2. Dr. Shashi Shekhar Jha,IIT Ropar

Dr. Jha is an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. He did his PhD from IIT Guwahati and was a Research Scientist at Fujitsu-SMU Urban Computing and Engineering (UNiCEN) Corp. Lab Singapore, Aug'2016 - Sep'2018. His area of research are Artificial Intelligence, Multiagent Systems, Multirobot Systems, Reinforcement Learning and BigData.

3. Dr. Debarka Sengupta,IIIT Delhi

Dr. Sengupta is an Assistant Professor at IIIT Delhi. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Sc. and Engineering from Jadavpur University. Afterwards, he spent two and half years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Genome Institute of Singapore. Before joining IIIT Delhi he spent a short sting at Machine Intelligence Unit of Indian Statistical Institute as a INSPIRE faculty. His U.S. patent on applied social choice theory was awarded by the patent monetization giant Intellectual Ventures. He has twice been nominated for the prestigious INSPIRE Faculty award - in 2014 and 2016.

4 Prof. Pradip K. Das IIT Guwahati

Prof. Pradip K. Das is an Professor at the Computer Science & Engineering Department of IIT Guwahati. His area of research are Speech Processing, Man-Machine Intelligence Systems, Algorithms, Software Engineering, Smart Devices, Mobile Robotics.

5. Dr, Dileep A.D, IIT Mandi

Dr, Dileep A.D is an Assistant Professor in School of Computing and Electrical Engineering at IIT Mandi. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. His areas of research are Pattern Recognition, Kernel Methods for Pattern Analysis, Machine Learning, Speech Technology & Computer Vision.

6. Geekslab Technology Pvt. Ltd.

The Hands-on session will be conducted by Geekslab Technologies Pvt. Ltd. GeeksLAB was started by a group of Engineers, expert in their respective domains and have reached out to more than 450+ Institutes, trained around 55000+ students in different cities across the country. Additionally, 85 fests of various Institutes and top-notch universities, including IITs, NITs and IIITs, have been sponsored by GeeksLAB. GeeksLAB hands-on session on Artificial Intelligence and ML workshop will take you through core development and programming experience and will make you expert in writing algorithms for AI applications.

  1. Maximum Number of Participants: 50 (Selection on the basis of first come first served)
  2. Registration Fee: Nil.
  3. Accommodation: Free Accommodation will be provided in the Campus’s Hostels on sharing basis.
  4. Food Facility: Free breakfast, lunch, evening snacks & dinner will be provided to the participants during the workshop.
  5. Participants should carry their own Laptops for hands- on training.
  6. Rs 1000 as caution money for the registration (*refundable after the workshop)
  7. Travelling Allowance: Train and Bus fare to the extent of Rs. 2500 shall be reimbursed on producing the valid travel tickets.

How to Reach


The campus is situated at Anu in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is 3 kms from the main bus stand of Hamirpur on (NH-70). The city of Hamirpur is well connected with the rest of the country by road. Hamirpur is at a distance of about 480 kms from Delhi


Nearest broad gauge train head is at Una (Himachal Pradesh), at a distance of 80 kms from Hamirpur. Una is well linked to all parts of India and journey is of nine hours from Old Delhi Railway Station. Taxi/Bus services are available from Hamirpur to Una. NIT Hamirpur is around 4 kilometers away from Hamirpur bus stand.IndianRailways
